Force
the only way
Sir
- Having had an aunt raped and executed, a two-year-old
cousin torched to death, and an uncle killed during interrogation
by the Iraqi regime, I welcomed the Government's dossier
(report, 3 Dec) on Saddam Hussein's crimes.
Though
it is too late for several million Iraqis, I hope that
this new-found moral path will result in the overthrow
of this terrible regime and the installation of a true,
proportionally representative democracy.
The
Left accuses the Government of using the suffering of
Iraqis as propaganda for a war on Saddam, though it fails
to recognise that the vast majority of Iraqis believe
that only external military intervention can rid Iraq
and its people of Saddam - proved by the two million dead
Iraqis.

Government
right to publish dossier
Sir - As an Iraqi, I welcome the publication of the Government's
dossier on human rights abuses in Iraq. This is long overdue.
For more than 30 years, we have been campaigning to highlight
the reality of this regime.
Saddam's
weapons of mass destruction are not his only threat to
the world; his lethal and ruthless technique of oppression
for decades has resulted in the death of thousands of
Iraqi people, and it is time that he and his clique were
held responsible for these crimes.
UN
inspectors should not only investigate weapons sites in
Iraq, but also demand entry to Iraq's many prisons and
detention centres, where some of the most appalling techniques
of torture are practised on political prisoners.
